Photo Models and Runway Models: The Key Differences

The terms runway model and photo model are often used as if they meant the same thing, but that is a big mistake. In fact, these words have very different meanings, and it is important to understand them before starting a career as a model or a photo model. Below you will find the main differences between the work of a model and a photo model, and the requirements for people who dream of this career.

Photo model
The word "photo model" immediately brings photography to mind, and this association is entirely correct, because a photo model's job is posing for photos. Photo models face lower requirements, because photos can be retouched and various flaws can be hidden.
Much shorter or fuller-figured young women and men can become photo models, so this work can be a lifeline for those who do not meet the high requirements set for models.
On the international market, photo models usually pose for artistic photos, which often include subtle nudity. In Lithuania, too, there are agencies that offer to make people photo models and have them take part in various events, television shows or advertisements.
The Supermodels model agency does not have a separate division for photo models. The fashion market in Lithuania is still very small, so our agency looks only for models who meet high standards and to whom we can offer the chance to pursue a professional modelling career.
Runway model / model
A "runway model", or simply a model, is the beauty walking down the runway who most often inspires young girls to dream of a modelling career. Unfortunately, runway models face very high requirements, so not everyone can become a model.
Models are very slim and tall young men and women, but even these requirements can vary. They usually change depending on the region where the model works.
In Asian countries, a runway model can work profitably at just 170 centimetres tall, but in many European countries that height is too short for a model. In the West, runway models usually need to be at least 175 cm tall. Of course, this is not a rule! There are always exceptions in Europe too, where girls 170 cm tall have built successful modelling careers.
The key thing to know before registering online with any model agency: no genuine, professional agency selects models based on descriptions or photos they send in. You must come to the office.
