How and When Do Model Auditions Take Place?

Model agencies hold auditions several times a year and invite girls and boys who meet the requirements for models to come along. Anyone who has been to a model audition knows that the process is neither long nor frightening, yet there are still people who dream of becoming models but never quite dare to take part. Supermodels agency does not stop at the usual auditions, either: we invite girls and boys to our summer model audition, to take part in our online audition, and to try becoming a plus-size model. In this article we explain what model agencies look for, how auditions work, when they take place and how to find out about them – and we even give advice on what to wear.

What do model agencies look for at auditions?

Model agencies are looking for promising new faces who meet the requirements for models.

To take part in an audition, you first need to be the right age. Different agencies set different age limits; some invite girls to sign a contract from the age of 12 or 13, but bear in mind that professional modelling work only begins at 16. That is why Supermodels agency accepts girls from the age of 14 – two years is enough time to prepare fully for a modelling career. There are exceptions: in some markets girls younger than 16 can work if they are independent and mature enough, or if they can travel with a parent. Boys are expected to be older, at least 16. The fashion industry usually looks for older, more mature male models, so the age at which we recommend boys start their careers is higher than for girls.

It is also important to meet the height requirement. The minimum height can differ from agency to agency. Some agencies look for models from 172 cm or 174 cm, while Supermodels agency accepts girls between 170 cm and 180 cm. The height requirement for boys is stricter, as they have to fall within an even narrower range – from 185 cm to 190 cm.

Meeting the body measurements set for models matters too. The most important and strictest measurement is the hips. Hip circumference must not exceed 92 cm, and ideally it should be between 87 and 90 cm. The waist is just as important – it should measure 58–62 cm. Still, there is no absolute truth in the modelling world, and what suits one model may not suit another. What matters is that the figure looks visually proportionate. There are no strict body measurements for men, but they should have an athletic build without being overly muscular.

When do model auditions take place and how can you find out about them?

Model agencies usually hold new-face auditions twice a year, in spring and autumn. During these periods agencies scout for new models in towns and cities across Lithuania. Touring auditions are most often held in Klaipėda, Palanga, Mažeikiai, Panevėžys, Šiauliai, Tauragė, Utena, Kėdainiai, Marijampolė, Alytus, Vilnius and Kaunas.

Sometimes agencies also hold summer auditions. These usually take place in one chosen city, at a set time and place. For example, Supermodels agency organised a summer model audition in Palanga, open to anyone holidaying there at the time.

In 2020, however, the fashion industry was hit hard by the Covid-19 pandemic. Supermodels adapted to the situation by organising remote, online model auditions, making it possible to become a model without leaving home.

How do model auditions work?

The audition itself does not take long, although you may have to wait in a queue with other girls. During the audition, agency representatives get to know you, note down your contact details so they can reach you afterwards, measure your hips, waist and bust, and take a few simple photos of you. We told you it was nothing to be afraid of!

How to prepare for a model audition

Pay attention to the requirements listed above, but remember that there are always exceptions. One of our models who works very successfully abroad is 168 cm tall. So if becoming a model has always been your dream, give it a try!
It is important to build your self-confidence and know your worth – so when you arrive at the audition, let it show.
Come to the audition with clean hair. We advise girls not to wear make-up, so that agency representatives can see your true beauty. We recommend wearing fitted, dark clothes and flat shoes. You can liven up this look with stylish accessories.
